Black Dragon
The Gurkha Black Dragon Fury turned out to be a very pleasant surprise for me — especially considering my mixed experiences with other Gurkha cigars over the years.
From the very first light, this cigar came out swinging with a bold burst of spice and black pepper that immediately grabbed my attention. It had strength, body, and attitude right from the start. But what impressed me was how quickly that initial spice began to evolve, allowing a subtle sweetness to emerge beneath the surface and balance everything out beautifully.
Flavor-wise, the cigar unfolded in layers. Pepper dominated the early profile, followed by notes of cedar and dark earth that gave the smoke a rich, grounded character. As the cigar settled in, hints of espresso and dark cocoa emerged, adding depth and a slightly bittersweet richness to the experience. The progression felt natural and cohesive rather than chaotic, which made the cigar surprisingly enjoyable for such a bold profile.
The smoke itself was thick, rich, and full-bodied without becoming overwhelmingly harsh. This is definitely a cigar for smokers who enjoy stronger flavors and a more commanding presence on the palate. Yet despite its intensity, the Black Dragon Fury still managed to maintain enough sweetness and smoothness to keep things balanced from beginning to end.
Construction was solid overall as well. The cigar burned evenly, produced plenty of smoke, and delivered a draw that stayed comfortable throughout the experience. It simply performed the way a premium cigar should.
I’ll be honest — I’ve tried several Gurkha cigars in the past and most of them never really connected with me. Some felt overly marketed, others lacked balance, and a few simply failed to live up to the hype surrounding the brand. But this one? The Black Dragon Fury finally gave me a Gurkha I genuinely enjoyed.
Bold, spicy, rich, and layered with flavor, this cigar managed to win me over where others from the brand could not. And that alone says quite a bit.
