La Estrella Cubana Oscuro
The La Estrella Cubana Oscuro Robusto, unfortunately, turned out to be one of the more disappointing cigars I’ve smoked in quite some time.
Going into the experience, I expected a rich oscuro profile packed with dark chocolate, espresso bean, toasted tobacco, and deep maduro character — especially considering the descriptions surrounding the blend. Cigars wrapped in oscuro leaf often promise bold richness, sweetness, earth, and heavy coffee-like notes.
Unfortunately, I experienced almost none of that.
To its credit, the cigar was fairly smooth. There was no overwhelming harshness or bitterness during the portion I smoked. But smoothness alone can only carry a cigar so far when the flavor profile itself feels flat and uninspired.
The promised notes of dark unsweetened chocolate, toast, and espresso bean never truly appeared for my palate. Instead, the cigar came across muted, dull, and lacking the richness I expected from an oscuro blend. I kept waiting for the cigar to wake up and reveal some hidden complexity, but it never happened.
And that led to something rather unusual for me.
This became the first cigar I’ve ever intentionally snuffed out before even reaching the halfway point.
That alone probably says everything that needs to be said.
The cigar simply failed to hold my attention long enough to justify continuing. Even at only $1.99, I found myself more disappointed by the wasted smoking time than the money itself.
Not every cigar needs to be expensive to be enjoyable. Some inexpensive cigars can be genuine hidden gems. Unfortunately, for me, the La Estrella Cubana Oscuro was not one of them.
